THE Muslim cemetery in Kemuyang, Sibu, will look greener once 1,000 trees are planted.

“We are planting 510 trees in conjunction with International Forests Day for Sibu Division and overall, it will be 1,000 trees,” said state Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The Nangka assemblyman added that the ministry was also looking into improving facilities at Kemunyang Islamic Cemetery.

“The cemetery is equipped with facilities such as a surau and a van.

“We have an eCemetery website where families can identify their relatives’ grave sites online according to the allocated lot number,” he said at a tree-planting programme at the cemetery organised by Sarawak Forestry Department in collaboration with Sibu Islamic Welfare Trust Board and Nangka PBB Service Centre.

Sarawak Forestry director Datuk Hamden Mohammad said the programme was part of the initiative to plant 100 million trees nationwide.

“Sarawak has been tasked with planting 35 million of the 100 million trees and we have achieved the target.

“However, we will not stop there and will continue to plant more trees,” he said.

He added that the Malaysia Green Campaign would conclude in December 2025. — By ANDY CHUA
