THE 3rd Global Culinary Challenge Malaysia (GCCM) held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) Kuala Lumpur attracted a total of 471 participants from 14 countries.

These countries included Morocco, Vietnam, China, South Korea, Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

GCCM event chairman Datuk Seri Dr King Lim Chin Fui said this year’s edition created a new record with almost 500 participants.

“GCCM is not just a competition. It’s a stage for chefs worldwide to show their passion, creativity and heritage through their food.

“It promotes tourism, cultural understanding and our shared love for good food.

“I believe the economic impact is huge with a large number of locals and global visitors experiencing Malaysia’s vibrant culture and delicious cuisine,” he said.

Lim thanked all event supporters including Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, sponsors, organising committees and participating chefs.

He announced that GCCM would begin a new partnership with Five Petroleum Malaysia in launching a special food guide showcasing the best eateries in Malaysia.

“These hidden treasures will be featured on the Five Petroleum app and recommended at its petrol stations nationwide.

“We hope more such partnerships can be realised in order to promote GCCM as a global brand for culinary exchange,” he said.

He added that food tourism had become a new trend in travel spending, which could help to stimulate the economy.

The previous GCCM events, held in 2019 and 2022, promoted Malaysian culinary skills and food culture.

These also provided a platform for participating chefs worldwide to share their experiences.
