Johor police chief reminds servicemen they are ‘cops until the day they retire’

FORMER Johor traffic investigation and enforcement chief M. Kumarasan, 49, has been appointed the new Iskandar Puteri OCPD.

He was also promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner (ACP) following his new position as the district police chief effective April 21.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said given his leadership qualities, Kumarasan was well suited to the role.

“Under his leadership, the Johor police contingent’s traffic investigation and enforcement department achieved great results via Ops Sikap operations,” he said, referring to the road safety campaign against errant motorists.

During his speech at the appointment ceremony, the state police chief also thanked Iskandar Puteri acting OCPD Supt Ibrahim Mat Som for carrying out his duties with full commitment.

Comm Kumar reminded those in the force that being a police officer was a full-time job.

“We do not stop being policemen after our working hours.

“We do not exist as individuals (while we are in the force), we exist as policemen until the day we retire.

“Even then, we are known as retired policemen, so it is a responsibility we carry with us all the time to ensure that the force’s image is not tainted,” he said.

At the ceremony, Supt Ibrahim was also promoted to the rank of ACP.

He will be transferred to Johor police headquarters to assume the position of crime prevention and community safety department assistant chief.

At the event, ACP Ibrahim handed over the baton to ACP Kumarasan, who has been in the police force for 26 years.

Originally from Sungai Petani in Kedah, ACP Kumarasan had served in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and Selangor before moving to Johor in 2013.

He holds a Master’s degree in business administration and has served in various departments including as Criminal Investigation Department chief at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters from 2017 until 2019 before he took over as Johor traffic chief.
