FACTORY supervisor Ch’ng Hong Hooi marked his 52nd birthday with a good deed.
He was among 454 people who gave blood during a donation campaign last Sunday.
“I have donated blood over 20 times since the mid-90s.
“By donating blood, I want to help save more lives,” he said.
Also spotted donating blood were Komtar assemblyman and regular donor Teh Lai Heng and the Chief Minister’s office special assistant Tan Hui Ming.
“This is my 16th time donating blood. I feel that this contribution is priceless as it can help save people’s lives,” said Tan.
Buletin Mutiara reported that the campaign was organised by the Royal Thai Consulate General in Penang at its premises in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, George Town, in partnership with Hui Yin Seh Metta Blood Donation Group and Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC).
The campaign resulted in 454 pints of blood collected for Penang Hospital, Penang Lam Wah Ee Hospital and Penang Island Hospital.
Penang health committee chairman Daniel Gooi said he was grateful to see so many people stepping up to donate blood to support the drive.
Gooi, who represented Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the campaign, was earlier welcomed by Thai Consul-General in Penang Raschada Jiwalai.
Raschada said: “It is a significant day for Thailand as we commemorate and celebrate His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 72nd birthday.
“Besides our regular supporters for blood donation, we have about 20 to 30 Thais from the community here joining us in celebrating this auspicious day.”
Lim said the blood donation drive offered a rare opportunity for blood donors to enter the premises of the Thai consulate.
He added that sponsors of the campaign received 10 pairs of shoes as tokens of appreciation from PFSC club adviser Datuk Tom Khoo.
Other distinguished guests at the blood donation drive were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, PFSC chairman Lim Choo Hooi, Penang Hui Yin Seh Association adviser Datuk Chuang Keng Kung and deputy chairman Khiah Hock Leong, Penang National Registration Department deputy director Awangku Iswandy Aswangku Serma and Penang Sports Council director Harry Chai Heng Hua.
