Recycling drive in Teluk Intan

Rotary Club of Teluk Intan, Perak kicked off an initiative encouraging folk to send in their recyclable items.

Club president Tan Aik Kian said the initiative would start in five residential areas – Taman Teluk Intan, Antek Avenue, Taman Impiana, Taman Maju Intan and Taman Zahari Zabidin – with weekly collections to encourage people to segregate their waste and care for the environment at the same time.

“People can send in items like plastic bags and bottles, clothing, glass bottles, paper, aluminium or metal cans and containers, electronic gadgets, electrical appliances and even car batteries.

“Participants will need to provide us with their address and we will collect the recyclables from their doorstep,” he said, adding that they could earn points as an incentive which could be exchanged for daily items.

Tan said the initiative, which would be expanded to other areas in the future, was meant to prepare people for environmental preservation policies that could be introduced by the government.
