MEETING animated characters BoBoiBoy and Mechamato was a huge thrill for Najya Khiari, a fan of the cartoon series.

“This is my first time meeting my favourite characters and interacting with them.

“Most importantly, I got to take pictures with them,” said the nine-year-old girl.

Najya was one of the 40 orphans from Pertubuhan Kasih Bestari, Shah Alam, who had the opportunity to play with the animated superhero characters during the third annual Ramadan Cookout by Lotus’s Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The event was held with its long-time partner Food Aid Foundation.

Over 100 volunteers prepared and distributed 2,000 iftar meals to residents of underprivileged homes in Kota Baru, Kelantan, Seberang Jaya, Penang, Melaka and Shah Alam, Selangor during a series of cookouts.

The final cookout held at Lotus’s Malaysia in Shah Alam also featured the distribution of bubur lambuk to the public, as well as an iftar treat for children from Pertubuhan Kasih Bestari.

Brands that participated in the cookouts included Adabi Consumers Industries Sdn Bhd, Kara Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd, Coca-Cola Companies, animation company Animosta Studios Sdn Bhd along with several mall tenants.

Lotus’s Malaysia corporate services executive director Azliza Baizura Azmel said the company aimed to bring joy to the less fortunate and develop a sense of gratitude and responsibility to the community among their partners.

“I would like to thank the brands that joined us in bringing delight to these children and homes, through their generous contributions of products and vouchers totalling over RM28,000.

“This year’s cookout was even more heartwarming, with our colleagues preparing nourishing meals for 200 underprivileged children from six welfare homes and a school,” said Azliza.

Throughout Ramadan, volunteers from 15 Lotus’s stores will connect with community mosques and surau, providing food and drinks for moreh (meals after night prayers) and khatam Quran (Quran recitations).

Lotus’s Malaysia head of communication and CSR Hanim Hamdan said volunteers also cooked and distributed 2,400 bowls of bubur lambuk to customers in Melaka and Shah Alam.

To catch Boboiboy in action, fans can visit 11 selected Lotus’s malls in Ampang and Shah Alam in Selangor, Mergong in Kedah, Desa Tebrau in Johor and Indera Mahkota in Pahang from now until April 7.
