A TOTAL of 46 mosques and surau as well as eight welfare homes and orphanages were the beneficiaries of donations from Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
Council president Dr Ani Ahmad handed out cash donations of RM1,000 through MPAJ’s “Program Kongsi Rezeki” at Padang Perbandaran MPAJ in Pandan Indah, Ampang, Selangor.
The welfare homes and orphanages also received daily necessities such as rice and sugar donated by the public, through the programme for needy folks in conjunction with Ramadan.
Raya gifts totalling RM3,200 were also distributed to 160 children from welfare homes during the same event.
Besides this, MPAJ has also been distributing bubur lambuk to the public.
Some 300 portions of this traditional buka puasa staple was prepared by staff of MPAJ and Ampang medical diagnostic lab Premier Integrated Lab, together with members of Zone 18 Residents Committee and Pandan Indah Fire and Rescue Station.
The council spent RM57,200, out of which RM11,000 was from the MPAJ Endowment programme for charity.
The fund was set up in June last year to finance community welfare and sustainable development goals within the municipality.
A council spokesperson said, “Through these endowment contributions, MPAJ has the opportunity to implement more initiatives and programmes for the benefit of the Ampang Jaya community.”
With an aim of strengthening community ties, the council is also inviting the public to the Ampang Jaya Community Iftar programme, which is being held from 6pm onwards at MPAJ Municipal Field and will run until April 5.
The public can also visit the Juadah Market near the field, which starts from 4pm.
For “Program Kongsi Rezeki”, MPAJ welcomes public donations of food and necessities, and these items can be handed over at the 4th floor lobby of Menara MPAJ in Pandan Indah.
