An athletics development programme called Shah Alam Track and Field Academy has been launched.
The programme is conducted in collaboration with Kelab Olahraga Shah Alam (Shah Alam Athletics Club).
The Shah Alam Track and Field Academy offers to train those interested in sprints (100m to 400m), long distance running (800m and above), hurdles, walks, long and triple jumps, shot put, discus and javelin.
Training sessions costing RM50 a month will start on April 22 and will be held from 5pm to 6.15pm on Mondays and Thursdays at the Shah Alam National Sports Complex (Panasonic Stadium).
It is open to school-going children and adults aged 18 and above.
Club president Datuk Harjeet Singh and Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) councillor Tengku Ahmad Tengku Kasim represented the club and city council respectively at the launch during MBSA’s monthly car-free day.
Held at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam, Selangor, on March 10, the event was also an opportunity for MBSA to honour the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
Women visitors to the event received a muffin each to mark International Women’s Day.
The day started with a “Rakan Muda Run” with MBSA deputy secretary (management) Asmah Mohd Zin and Selangor Youth and Sports Department director Azura Sarbin on hand to flag off the participants.
Other activities included archery contests, a fitness challenge, youth bazaar and lucky draw.
There was also an MBSA mobile counter as well as exhibitions and promotions by various government agencies.
