Drinking water extracted from air is being made in Penang at a production plant located at the Star Northern Hub building in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Bayan Lepas.

With about 400 employees, the ZERO Mass Water Holdings Malaysia Sdn Bhd facility began operations last March.

The company develops a zero mass drinking water called “Source”, which is produced using solar panels to extract volumes of water from the air in a unique sustainable water technology process.

According to the company, the drinking water is made from water molecules collected through a hygroscopic (absorbent) material aerated by a fan.

Present at the recent opening of the plant was its founder and chief executive officer Cody Friesen, chief operating officer Steven Brydon and senior operations vice-president Partheban Annamalai.

A lion dance was held to bless the premises during the opening ceremony.

Later, media members were taken on a tour of the plant. — K. KASTURI DEWI
