MELAKA is introducing a drive-through recycling centre (DTRC) that will buy food waste at 10sen per kilogramme.

State housing, local government, drainage, climate change and disaster management committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said the DTRC would be able to reduce food waste discarded at Sungai Udang sanitary landfill daily.

“I understand that this facility has not yet been offered at any other DTRC in Malaysia.

“It aims to collect three tonnes of food waste per day from the local community,” he said as reported by Bernama.

The DTRC is run by ArusV Greentech (M) Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp).

“Through this method, the community can recycle food waste in a more systematic way compared to throwing leftovers into the rubbish bin,” Rais said after launching the DTRC at Taman Tasik Utama in the Ayer Keroh Industrial Park.

Also present was SWCorp chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Husaini Abd Rahman.

SWCorp established 104 DTRCs throughout the country last year.

Ahmad Husaini said 74 of the DTRCs were opened in states that had adopted the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007.
