Waste dumping going on daily from as early as 5.30am, behind the zinc partition.
Residents of Sri Manja Court in Petaling Jaya are upset over dumping activities going on behind their homes daily.
They said rubbish-laden lorries unload wastes at a piece of land about 500m behind block G of the condominium in Jalan PJS3.
A resident, P. Suresh said they were told that the site was on government reserve land.
“How can the authorities not know that this place has been turned into a dumpsite?” asked Suresh who has been staying at the condominium for 30 years.
He said the noise and air pollution was a daily affair, even on weekends and public holidays.
“The lorries start going in and out of the site as early as 5.30am,” he said.
He added that his children found it difficult to concentrate on their studies because of the noise and smell.
Suresh noted zinc partitions had been erected on the plot, which also served as a parking space for heavy vehicles.
He said the odour from the waste had forced them to keep their doors and windows at home closed all the time.
Another resident, Kelly Shiyoke Chan, questioned why the authorities had not taken action.
“Some days, you can see mattresses and old furniture like sofas thrown here,’’ she said.
Sri Manja Court Residents Association chairman Shahrudin Abu Bakar want the authorities to take charge and put an end to the dumping activities.
“This has been going on for a few years. We brought the issue to the attention of Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) but there has been no response.
“Dengue cases are also on the rise, and it is unhealthy to have rubbish strewn everywhere here,” he said.
MBPJ had yet to respond to StarMetro at press time.
