FOURTEEN child cancer patients have received RM1,000 each in treatment subsidies from the service centre of Sibu MP Oscar Ling.
The aid, he hoped, would support the children and their families during treatment.
The children also received toys in the spirit of Christmas.
Ling said his service centre launched the Subsidy for Children with Cancer Programme and began accepting applications from residents in the Sibu parliamentary constituency in early October.
“Cancer is an immensely difficult ordeal for a child, while also posing a major challenge to parents in terms of care and finances,” he said.
The assistance programme, he added, was for cancer patients aged 18 and under, on condition that at least one parent is a registered voter in Sibu parliamentary constituency.
He further called on the community to join in offering encouragement to children battling cancer.
“While we may not be able to prevent cancer or other illnesses from befalling someone, we can still come together to brighten these children’s world, so they may continue to see hope even in darkness.”
