Taman Petaling residents in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, are dismayed by the presence of a facility housing heavy machinery and industrial equipment in the area.
They claim that the facility, which has been operating for about a decade, is causing problems to neighbourhoods there.
The facility is located at Lot 24027, at the roundabout between Jalan Udang Kepai and Jalan Mergastua.
It is unclear who owns the facility and what type of activity is taking place inside.
A check by StarMetro on a weekday found that it was closed off with metal hoarding.
Local activist Yee Poh Ping said various complaints had been lodged with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) over the years but there was no response to date.
He said many residents were upset that the facility operated into the wee hours daily, disturbing the peace.
“Residents are hoping for immediate action by DBKL.
The Taman Petaling facility in Kepong, which operates into the wee hours, is disturbing the peace.
“The site should be vacated and turned into a green area,” he said.
A DBKL letter dated Jan 4 addressed to Yee stated that the site was reserve land and owned by the government.
However, the letter did not state if any action would be taken.
Taman Sri Segambut resident Gary Low was worried about lorries entering and exiting the facility throughout the day.
“Sometimes, these vehicles are parked along the road and this creates blind spots for other motorists using the roundabout,” he said.
Another resident, Michael Yen, expressed concern about the potential discharge of engine oil into the river behind the facility.
“We also worry that the used equipment stored inside the facility might collect water and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes,” he added.
A DBKL spokesperson, when contacted, said the matter would be forwarded to the appropriate department for further action.
