VILLAGERS of Kampung Sungai Terentang, Rawang in Selangor, are benefitting from refurbished facilities.

The RM152,000 project by the state government saw upgrades to the basketball and badminton courts, community hall as well as the local office, said Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat.

The upgrade works, which began on Oct 26 last year, were completed in early December 2023.

The basketball court saw enhancements, including installation of 232sq m of awnings on each side of the court and a 600sq m tarred road at the entrance.

“Previously, we installed a roof for the court.

“Upon receiving complaints about water ponding at the court during rainy season, immediate measures were taken to resolve the issues,” said Chua.Villagers occasionally organised small events at the sports court and it was important to have a designated area for parking vehicles on the road, he said.

“Prior to this, the presence of sand on the court’s surface posed a safety hazard for children.

“Before these installations, the village safety and development council (MPKK) and residents collaborated to enhance various other facilities, including installing a gate at the court.

During the upgrades, the badminton court was fixed with new lighting, new flooring for the local office and the community hall was repainted.

Chua said there were plans for further upgrades.

Village head Yap Hong commended the Selangor executive councillors for their efforts and said he was very pleased with the enhanced facilities.

Also present were Gombak Land and District Office engineer Mohd Zarul Nizam and assistant engineer Mohd Sahrurazikin Ramlan.
