THIS Chinese New Year, several large-scale events have been lined up in Tronoh constituency to coincide with Visit Perak Year 2024.
Its assemblyman Steven Tiw Tee Siang said a carnival had been planned on Feb 12 to encourage more people to come home for the festive period.
The carnival offering lots of food and fun activities will be held near Tham Sen Chinese temple in Pusing.
Tiw said about 300 red lanterns were being set up at the temple grounds.
Other than the temple, Tronoh and Batu Gajah towns will also be lighted up with red lanterns.
“When the towns and the temple areas are lit up at night, it will be a good opportunity to take photos.
“We want to give Tronoh a new image so that people have something fun to do and experience when they come home,” he said.
The carnival would be held from 10am to 11pm, said Tiw.
“There will be over 50 food, handicraft and game stalls.
“A traditional hanfu costume competition is also planned.
“Of course, the highlight will be the fireworks show and dragon dance,” he said, adding that there would also be a lion dance and singing performances.
Tiw said those who left Tronoh to work elsewhere had said there was nothing much for them to look forward to when they come home, especially for the Chinese New Year.
“So now we are lighting up most of the areas, and having a carnival just to attract them to come back.”
He also said several projects promised last year had been completed.
The two main ones were the upgrading of a field and a playground respectively at two new Chinese villages – Kampung Baru Bemban in Batu Gajah and Kampung Baru Bali in Tronoh.
Two weeks before Chinese New Year, said Tiw, the arch heading into Kampung Nalla near Tronoh town would be fixed with spotlights.
“Residents there have been complaining about the area being very dark at night,” he said.
He also announced that several road and drain upgrading projects had been completed.
