NGO claims illegal SIA resubmission, seeks MACC action

PUTRAJAYA: A non-governmental organisation has submitted a memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in response to the resubmission of the cancelled Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) project's Social Impact Assessment (SIA).

Speaking to The Star outside the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Dec 27), Gerakan Menentang Penilaian Impak Tebuk Atap spokesperson Dhanaraj Arumugam said they made the formal complaint as they believed the resubmission of the SIA was illegal.

"The Selangor Mentri Besar had announced in July that the PJD Link project was cancelled, and the state government rejected the data of the SIA.

"But we heard that the SIA was resubmitted in November," said Dhanaraj.

PJD Link is a proposed 25.4km dual-lane elevated expressway connecting Damansara to Bandar Kinrara in Selangor.

On July 31, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state decided to cancel the plan as it was not satisfied with the SIA submitted.

Dhanaraj claimed that the Selangor Town and Country Planning Department had stated that the developer had resubmitted the SIA report.

"The resubmission is illegal, the project has been cancelled. The proper procedure should be for a new proposal with fresh traffic, environmental and SIA reports.

"The Selangor government must order new focus group discussions instead of the SIA.

"The content of the SIA is the same, so they cannot give approval to something that was rejected," added Dhanaraj.

He hoped the state government could urge the Federal Government's agencies to immediately open an investigation paper to get clarity about the viability of this project.

The Star reached out to PJD Link chief executive officer Amrish Hari Narayanan, who has yet to reply at press time.
