Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) is installing signboards and conducting periodic monitoring to nab those who are illegally dumping rubbish around Taman Suria in Kajang, Selangor.

Councillor Siti Razimi said MPKj had put up signboards at some of the dumpsites on Dec 7.

MPKj Corporate Planning and Public Relations director Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman said the council had so far installed three signboards warning the public against dumping rubbish.

A RM1,000 compound would be imposed on perpetrators, as provided for in the Collection, Discard, and Disposal of Garbage By-Law 2007, he said.

On Dec 11, StarMetro published an article titled “Calls for sustainable plan on rubbish woe” that identified three illegal dumpsites around Taman Suria.

Various types of domestic and construction waste were found dumped at Jalan Suria 5 and Jalan Bukit Suria in Taman Suria, as well as Jalan Rakan 12 in Taman Rakan.

MPKj had cleared the rubbish and sealed the sites.

Residents have since called for MPKj to implement sustainable measures such as the setting up closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the dumpsites to prevent the problem from recurring.

On this matter, Kamarul said CCTV installation was costly.

“Currently, we don’t have any allocation to instal CCTVs, so we have to opt for alternatives such as periodic monitoring to tackle the problem.

“We will conduct patrols and strengthen the security at entrances of residential areas.”
