SEVERAL Malaysian artists are organising an art exhibition to raise funds to help the Palestinian people.

The “Gaza” art exhibition, with the support of Art Market Malaysia, is taking place until Dec 31 at Menara KPJ in Kuala Lumpur.

Six Malaysian artists have contributed about 50 pieces of artwork to be sold for the charity.

The money raised will be used to buy necessities such as food and blankets to be sent to the Palestinians, said organiser and Art Market founder Rita Hatta.

“We are collaborating with Cinta Gaza Malaysia Association (CGM) to raise the funds,” said Rita during the launch.

“All the artworks are for sale, with 50% of proceeds going to the cause.”

She said that while the impact might not be big, she hoped the intention to help would come across.

Launching the exhibition were comedian and actor Datuk Afdlin Shauki and cartoonist Zunar.

Afdlin said artists could use their platforms to shape perceptions and understanding, especially on important issues.

“I hope the public will come to see and experience the talent of these artists.

“At the same time, they can help the Palestinians,” he added.

Participating artists are Ibnoo Jalil, Lan Itam, Mail Itam, Abey Zoul, Luq Zaidismail and Din Harun.

Lan said he was inspired to join in the group exhibition after being asked by a fellow artist.

Although the time given for them to come out with the artworks was quite short – about two weeks, Lan said he was able to produce six pieces.

“My artworks mostly feature children and how resilient they can be, even in times of war.”

The exhibition is open to the public from 10am to 8pm, Mondays to Saturdays.
