SOME 300 Indian families in Rawang, Selangor, had a more festive Deepavali with the help of their assemblyman and generous sponsors.

Food baskets, each filled with necessities worth RM100, were given to the recipients who were primarily from the B40 group.

The items included packets of murukku mix, flour, noodles, sugar, salt, cooking oil and orange cordial.

The items were handed out at two separate events by Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) councillor Alice Choo.

FFM Bhd contributed items for 200 families while Sime Darby Plantation Bhd sponsored goods for 100 families.

During a handover ceremony, Chua said such programmes were carried out during all major festivities.

“This year the state government approved 450 shopping vouchers for Rawang constituents, to mitigate the cost of inflation.

“But it is not enough and we appreciate efforts by the councillor and sponsors to help,” he said.
