Mission to improve Seberang Prai goes on

H’ng says the performance of the councillors will be monitored with the KPI.

Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) has appointed 24 councillors for the 2023/2024 term, with 13 being first-timers.

The newcomers are PKR’s Zainuddin Mohamed, Nurhidayah Che Rose, Muhammad Fadzli Roslan, Predeeb Kumar Kalidass, Lim Chee Chien and Nur Aishah Zainol; Amanah’s Muhammad Fitri Termizi; DAP’s Chong Wei Hoong, Linggeswaran Charmar, Ng Wai Leong and Ponnudurai Anthony Srinvasagam; Umno’s Datuk Omar Hamid; and from the non-governmental organisation (NGO) sector, Benson Neoh Kah Wei of Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

Umno’s Datuk Mohd Noor Ahmad, meanwhile, returns after having served as MBSP councillor in the past.

Those retained are Amanah’s Normahani Muhamad; PKR’s Anuar Yussoff, Ong Jing Cheng and Norly Masitah Mohamed Noor; and DAP’s Heng Yeh Shiuan, Bernard Cheen Goon Hooi, Ooi Yong Wooi, Ngoh Cheng Hai, Ng Yee Siang and Teh Chuann Yien.

All of them took their oaths before Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, state local government, town and country planning committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye and Seberang Prai mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad at the council headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam.

The councillors will serve from Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2024.

H’ng said their performances would be monitored in accordance with the key performance indicator (KPI).

“We want the councillors to commit themselves to the people and carry out their duty with integrity.

“They must work with the Seberang Prai mayor as a team to make the city a better place to live,” he told Buletin Mutiara.

Chow also urged MBSP to continue its ‘‘people-centric” approach.
