PETALING JAYA: Restoration work on the Kuala Langat Morib beach is underway following a thunderstorm that caused widespread damage on June 14.
According to the Kuala Langat Municipal Council's (MPKL) Facebook page, the council has declared the beach closed to the public use for the time being.
The beach will undergo clean-up and the removal of fallen trees till July 2.
The storm hit the district early in the morning, affecting Jalan Morib, Tanjung Sepat, Kampung Tali Air, Taman Delima Banting, Bandar Sungai Emas and Taman Yayasan Jenjarom.
MPKL reported that the storm downed a number of trees, damaging electric poles, telecommunication lines and water pipes.
Roads such as the Jalan Morib to Tanjung Sepat path were also blocked due to the trees.
According to the MPKL, its rapid action team (Pantas Squad) was contacted as early as 6.34am with regards to the blocked roads. A squad was immediately dispatched, clearing 23 trees, while another team was sent to Kampung Tali Air.
Multiple squads of the Pantas team were dispatched across Kuala Langat, clearing trees from roads on Jalan Morib, Tanjung Sepat, Kampung Tali Air, Taman Delima Banting, Bandar Sungai Emas and Taman Yayasan Jenjarom.
The Pantas squad was joined by the Fire and Rescue Department, the police and the Public Works Department of multiple towns from the Kuala Langat district alongside TNB Banting.
MPKL assistant secretary Khairul-Azam Saroni and other department heads inspected the beach area on June 15 to survey the damage and coordinate clean-up works.
