The Alam Damai Recreational Park is currently being upgraded and works should be completed by August.
A Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Corporate Planning Department spokesperson said in a statement to StarMetro that this was the reason for the park not looking its best.
DBKL was responding to a letter from Dr Sri Rishikheshen on the poor upkeep of the park. The letter was published in StarMetro on May 31 with the headline, “Alam Damai park looks abandoned.”
The writer highlighted that the tree trunks at the park entrance were not removed, a foul stench emitted from the fish pond and the walking paths were covered with mud.
“The scope of the upgrading works include cleaning the area, building a security fence, upgrading the pedestrian paths, constructing a playground and repairing the fountain pump system,” said the spokesperson.
“The palm trees at the entrance were cut down as they were found to be diseased.
“The tree trunks were left there because the cleaning of garden waste was done two days later.
DBKL will also be upgrading and beautifying the fountain at the pond.
“The pedestrian path that was submerged during a downpour is also part of the upgrading project.
“DBKL apologises for any difficulties encountered by visitors using the park’s facilities,” the spokesperson added.
