Hampers for fishermen

TWENTY-FIVE South Penang Island families of fishermen received festive hampers from Penang’s Pusat Perkhidmatan Setempat Nelayan (PPSN).

The service centre gave out food hampers to the families who live near the proposed Penang South Islands (PSI) project site.

Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said the hampers of essential food items were given to the fishermen and their families every festive season.

“We hope this will bring some cheer to the families and lessen their festive expenses,” he said.

“Apart from being the mediator between the state government and the people, particularly the South Penang Island fishermen, PPSN also organises social programmes for the local community.

“The local fishermen and community will benefit from PSI through socio-economic and welfare programmes and other perks under the project’s Social Impact Management Plan, which offers financial aid, job and business opportunities, skills training programmes, education support for and fishermen’s children,” he said. – By N.
