A TOTAL of RM100mil will be allocated for 260 beautification and urban greening projects by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), says Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.
In a Facebook post on Friday (Jan 6), he said that DBKL had identified 260 beatification projects to be carried out citywide to make Kuala Lumpur a metropolis of international standard.
"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ordered DBKL to beautify the capital city and City Hall has identified the areas that needed beautification," he said during a site visit to several tourist areas on Jan 4 with his deputy Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun.
Among the proposed projects are the upgrading and improvement of public toilets, upgrading of 20 business districts, seven hawkers centres and back lanes, repainting of DBKL flats, installation of solar and LED street lamps, beautifying main tourist attractions as well as creating more pedestrian walkways and improving public transportation.
Nga added that to enhance public facilities, the government had approved more free electric buses (GOKL Ride) this year.
"To encourage a healthy lifestyle, the government encourages more people to use public transport as it is more environmentally friendly and (results in) lower carbon emissions.
"Also, trees and decorative plants damaged during the National Day celebration last year have been replanted.
"I urge city folk to appreciate DBKL's efforts to maintain the city and let us work together to take care of the city environment.
"I will also conduct spontaneous visits to other local authorities to enhance its services to the people," he said.
