Jerlun candidates assure residents pressing issues will be raised with federal, state govts

LACK of water supply in the Jerlun parliamentary constituency requires the immediate attention of the Federal Government, says incumbent MP Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

In making the call, Pejuang’s Mukhriz, 58, said the daily routine of Jerlun residents in Kedah was disrupted by the water shortage.

“Such problems require the Federal Government’s attention, particularly because it involves a big budget.

“The population here has grown in the past 14 to 15 years but the water pipes have not been upgraded to cater to the increased population,” he said.

The two-term MP and Pejuang president said he had highlighted the matter to both the state and Federal governments.

Mukhriz, who is contesting the Jerlun seat in the 15th General Election, said it was high time the pipes were replaced.

He was speaking to reporters during his walkabout at the Kerpan night market where he and his team members distributed flyers to the public.

Mukhriz was commenting on the predicament of over 50 families in Kampung Padang Telok who have been putting up with frequent water supply disruptions over the past four years.

Perikatan Nasional candidate Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad from PAS also agreed that there was a serious water supply problem in the constituency.

He promised to work round the clock with the relevant authorities to help the people get clean water if he was elected.

He also said he would upgrade the infrastructure and amenities in the constituency.

“If given a chance to be the MP, I will upgrade roads in all villages,” he added.

Dr Abd Ghani also vowed to fight for the rights of farmers to obtain aid, just like fishermen and rubber tappers who receive incentives from the Federal Government.

Jerlun will see a four-way fight in GE15.

Contesting the seat against Mukhriz and Dr Abd Ghani are Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Othman Aziz, 63 – who will be out to avenge his loss to Mukhriz in 2018 – and Pakatan Harapan’s Dr Mohamed Fadzil Mohd Ali, 48.
