“THROW a stone and you may hit a calon (candidate).”
This quip is often heard in the Batu constituency in Kuala Lumpur following the nomination of candidates for GE15.
A crowded field of 10 are standing as candidates in hopes of taking this urban seat.
“Batu is a jewel that everyone seems to be fighting over.

“It will be tricky to ensure that voters do not get confused or sidetracked by the many names on the ballot paper,” said a political party member who declined to be named.
While some voters say the number of candidates offers more options, others think that too many faces will only muddy the waters.
Taman Rainbow resident B. Govindasamy says voters deserve capable and knowledgeable candidates.
He said the lack of strong personalities might have prompted so many candidates to try their luck.
“But, they must have a clear vision of what they intend to bring to the table (should they win),” he said.
First-time voter Jeremy Chua, 19, said the number of candidates made for healthy competition.
“We do not have to stick to the big names and parties.
“It is interesting to see the personalities in the race,” he told StarMetro.
Another voter said she would evaluate the candidates based on their respective track records in national issues.
“There is no point having an MP who is more focused on giving out hampers or visiting markets when the elections draws near.
“Have they made an effort in raising issues in Parliament or in any other capacity?” she added.
Besides Tian Chua and Siti Kasim, the other Independent candidates seem to have suddenly appeared and little is known about their backgrounds,” said Bandar Baru Sentul resident Sheila Manickam.
The 56-year-old was referring to the four Independent candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring.
