The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia hosted a reception in Kuala Lumpur to mark the 111th anniversary of Taiwan’s national day which falls on Oct 10.
“It’s an honour to have so many friends from Kuala Lumpur and around Malaysia joining us on this joyous occasion,” said Taipei Economic and Cultural Office representative (head of mission) Anne Hung.
She said Taiwan and Malaysia had enjoyed a cordial and close relationship over the decades as both had much in common.
“As Malaysia and Taiwan are both regional hubs and manufacturing centres in the semiconductor industry, the rise of new global supply chains during the pandemic will give us opportunities to grow and prosper together,” Hung said in her speech at the reception in Kuala Lumpur.
Among Asean countries, she noted that Malaysia was Taiwan’s largest source of students as well as tourists.
“There are about 13,000 Malaysian students currently in Taiwan,” she said, adding that prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, about 530,000 Malaysians visited Taiwan in 2019.
“I believe the relaxation of border restrictions will further enhance bilateral exchanges,” said Hung.
