DISCUSSIONS are ongoing to identify a suitable new plot for the 80-year-old SJK(T) Ladang Brafferton at Ladang Brafferton in Kapar, Selangor, so it can move closer to the town area.Established during British colonial rule, SJK(T) Ladang Brafferton is about 10km from Kapar.
It has six classrooms accommodating 34 pupils, a headmistress and 10 teachers.
Kapar Parliament MIC coordinator Datuk P. Kamalanathan said, “We are working with Sime Darby Plantations, the school’s board of governors and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to find alternative piece of land.
“Sime Darby Plantations has always been supportive in providing land for schools.
“We are negotiating to get 1.63ha for classrooms, an administration office and also a field for the pupils to hold sports activities.”
Kamalanathan said the new site closer to the urban area would encourage more Indian parents to send their children to a Tamil school.
Kapar MIC division chairman Kalaiyarasan Vathumalai, 50, said negotiations began in 2008 but because of a political shift, discussions stalled.
Recently, Kalaiyarasan led newsmen to a proposed site next to the Sri Maha Mariyamman Hindu temple in Kampung Sungai Serdang, Kapar.
“I believe the site is suitable as it is only 3.7km to Kapar town via Jalan Benteng and Jalan Keretapi Lama,” said Kalaiyarasan, an ex-pupil of the school.
PTA chairman Seeman Perumal, 56, said all parents had agreed to the relocation of the school.
“Our current location bordering Ladang Bukit Kerayong is quite a distance from the town.
“Other than transport issues, we need a new site to provide sports amenities for the pupils.”
