Odour pollution detected at Sg Gong in Rawang

Authorities carrying out odour pollution remedial works at Sungai Gong.

THE Skuad Pantas of the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) detected odour which was similar to diesel at Sungai Gong in Rawang, Selangor, on Wednesday (Sep21) at about 8.30pm.

Based on investigation, it was discovered that the oil came from an oil station at Taman Bayu Permai. Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) carried out mitigation measures by placing one unit of oil containment boom at the Sungai Gong catchment pond, according state tourism, environment, green technology and Orang Asli affairs committee chairman Hee Loy Sian.

Four activated carbon bags and five units of oil pad were also placed at the drainage of the oil station at Taman Bayu Permai to trap the oil and odour.

LUAS is also ready to carry out the flushing process from any of the water catchments if necessary to the river if found to be contaminated.

The reading of the order was recorded as one ton. LUAS has issued notice to the affected premises based on the LUAS 1999 Enactment to remove any possible river pollutants.

It is monitoring the affected area through odour sampling at the static station at Glomac bridge to detect any shift in smell at Sungai Gong.

Air Selangor has not reported any shut down of water treatment plants.
