Tucked away in a corner of Medan Damansara in Kuala Lumpur is an unassuming but inviting bar just right for chilling out.
Tiki Taka, which opened in 2016 but came under new management earlier this year, has an outdoor space where guests can enjoy their drinks as they take in the lush greenery.
Large folding doors with glass panels let plenty of natural light in when closed and allow the breeze indoors when open.
Patrons can unwind with a variety of cocktails, draft beers and selected wine at the bar.
Among Tiki Taka’s specials are Shoreditch, Ginzo, Lychee Martini, Yakuza, Whisky Sour, Mojito and Long Island Iced Tea.
Tasty and refreshing, the Yakuza (RM35) is made with gin, fresh lemon and house-made elderflower syrup that is shaken and served in a Martini glass and topped with a slice of lemon.
Beer-wise, the establishment serves Carlsberg, Asahi, Connors and Kronenburg while bottled drinks such as Somersby Apple cider and Carlsberg Smooth draft are also available.
There’s also a fine selection of whisky, cognac, gin, tequila, vodka and rum as well as red wine from France, Australia, Chile, Spain and New Zealand for those who are so inclined.
Non-alcoholic drinks like virgin mojito, cranberry cooler, watermelon lychee sparkler and beetroot orange can also be ordered along with smoothies such as the intriguing Avocado Gula Melaka.
A decent food menu awaits those looking for a bite as they unwind with their drinks.
It features Spanish-inspired pintxos and tapas with an Asian twist.
The small servings give diners a chance to taste a variety of dishes.
Vegan lovers will appreciate the Chaat (RM28), an Indian dish with baked smashed potatoes, gunpowder masala, chickpeas, pomegranate arils, corn, tamarind sauce, salsa, aji verde (Peruvian green sauce), turmeric yoghurt, coriander and sea salt.
Signature dishes here include Cuban Lamb Shank, Balinese Salmon, Terengganu Nasi Hujan Panas, Vindaloo Lamb and Barcelona Seafood Fiesta.
The Cuban Lamb Shank (RM52) is lamb braised in Cuban marinade with purple sweet potato mash, potato crisp and mesclun salad.
This is a hearty meal so make sure to bring your appetite.
The Vindaloo Lamb (RM33) is a must-try as it pairs well with most cocktails.
The smoked lamb in Portuguese vindaloo curry is served with flat bread.
Also a favourite among diners is the Balinese Salmon (RM47), which is salmon marinated in Balinese herbs and spices and served with butterfly pea rice, “heart beat hummus”, saffron crema, salmon mousse, mango lychee salsa and aji verde.
The Barcelona Seafood Fiesta (RM43) served with a red pepper sauce, prawns, squid, salmon, mango lychee salsa, wasabi crema and trio cheese is just as satisfying.
On the local front, one can indulge in the Terengganu Nasi Hujan Panas (RM38), which comes with rice, mutton rendang, sambal, pineapple kyuri salad, vegetable fritters, salted egg and keropok.
Tiki Taka won Tatler Malaysia’s best new restaurant award in 2017 and best restaurant in 2018 and 2019.
