TO commemorate its 10th anniversary, a university gathered industry partners for a roundtable session.

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) kicked off its year-long celebration with the Business Leaders Roundtable 2022 at EQ Kuala Lumpur.

The event was to honour the university’s top industry partners who had contributed to the institution’s impact in Malaysia, including the employability prospects of its graduates.

Thirty industry partners from various economic sectors were invited to the event, with 15 given recognition for their contributions.

Malayan Banking Group, Top Glove Corporation Bhd, Public Bank, Hong Leong Bank, Hong Leong Islamic Bank, Great Eastern, Ernst & Young, Shopee Malaysia, Allianz, FWD Takaful Bhd and PwC were among the corporations represented at the event.

Thanks to these partners, HWUM students have benefitted from scholarships, industry-placement programmes, career fairs, industry-in-the-classroom sessions, workplace visits, as well as research and development.

At the event were Heriot-Watt University (HWU) principal and vice-chancellor Prof Richard A. Williams from the United Kingdom, HWUM chair of the board of directors Datuk Yasmin Mahmood and HWUM provost and chief executive officer Prof Mushtak Al-Atabi.

HWU leaders expressed their gratitude for the contributions of these industry partners to ensure the university’s students received career-relevant education.

They said the university valued efforts to foster meaningful relationships between academia and industry, to allow a better understanding of the challenges faced by employers today, in terms of talent acquisition, retention and development.

At the event, it was announced that HWUM would annually raise funds for the education of 10 students from B40 families until 2032.

The scholarship developed by the university and its key industry partners would cover living expenses and tuition fees.
