A COMPACT substation’s location at a road kerb off Jalan Hilir in Klang, Selangor, is hindering the view of drivers exiting Solok Hilir and several near misses have been reported so far.
Solok Hilir resident Dr Vasu Appu, who represented several residents, said the new Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) substation made it difficult for drivers exiting Solok Hilir to see oncoming traffic on the right from Persiaran Raja Muda Musa.
The compact substation is about 2m in height and width.
“Residents find it dangerous to exit the junction.
“To get a clear view of oncoming traffic exiting Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, we have to crane our neck forward to check for traffic before turning into Jalan Hilir,” said Vasu.

The distance from the Solok Hilir exit to the Persiaran Raja Muda Musa intersection is about 170m.
Vasu said that several years ago, TNB had placed a smaller substation there.
“Residents driving out of Solok Hilir had to look between the old substation and the perimeter wall.
“Now it is worse as there is an additional feeder pillar box next to the compact substation, which totally obstructs our view of the road and oncoming traffic,” he said.
Vasu said some residents had written to TNB to request that the substation be moved but were told to suggest a new site.
Another resident, Poh Han Huat, said some of them had voiced their objections when the substation was being built but were told that the site had been approved.
“It is wrong to place the compact substation on a walkway.

“Other than obstructing a driver’s view, it forces pedestrians to walk on the road, putting them at risk as Jalan Hilir is a busy road that links to the Telok Gadong KTM Komuter station,” he said.
Resident Lim Dong said senior citizens like him would find it even more dangerous.
“We want TNB to relocate the substation,” he said.
Fellow resident Tan Sau Kee said TNB did not consult them before erecting the substation at the corner of the junction.
Motorcyclists interviewed by StarMetro, who included food service delivery riders, said they had experienced near misses too when turning into Solok Hilir and hoped TNB would remove the substation.
A TNB corporate communications department spokesperson said a site visit would be carried out soon to find a solution.
