Bukit Jalil coffeeshop still obstructing walkway with potted plants

A COFFEESHOP proprietor in Bandar Bukit Jalil continues to draw ire for blocking the five-foot way outside his premises with potted plants.

One month after being issued a notice by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to remove the obstructions, the shopowner had still failed to do so.

A nearby resident, identified only as SW Lee, sent a video to StarMetro showing how his son had to manoeuvre through the huge plants along the five-foot way.

“DBKL should just enforce the rules and remove the plants,” said Lee.

Another resident, Lisa Soo, pointed out that the five-foot way is meant for public use.

A business owner, who did not want to be identified, said his patrons had also complained about the pots.

“I understand that he wants to keep his customers safe but he is endangering others and flouting the rules by placing the pots there,” he said.

On June 14, StarMetro highlighted that the shop in Bukit Jalil was told to remove the potted plants it had placed on the five-foot way.

The operator had claimed he did so to deter snatch thieves.

Due to the obstruction, pedestrians were forced to walk on the main road, putting their lives in danger.

The shopowner told StarMetro that he would remove 30% to 40% of the pots.

However, a check showed that very few had been removed.

When contacted, a DBKL officer said action would be taken soon.
