PUTRAJAYA’s very own Brazilian spinach crisps took centre stage during a community programme organised by its local authority.
The spinach crisps were among other luscious greens plucked straight from the Precinct 16 community garden and turned into snacks.
It was sold in one of 20 booths set up during Putrajaya Corporation’s (PPj) “Our community, our showcase” programme to highlight the administrative capital’s business products.
Commending the Precinct 16 community’s effort, PPj president Fadlun Mak Ujud said he was proud that Putrajaya had its own product.
“If people visit the area, they will go back with something that is officially Putrajaya,” he said.
The majority of products sold during the event were affordable clothes suitable for all ages.
“As the number of small businesses grow in Putrajaya, we are planning to extend the area of the neighbourhood centre, in hopes that the booths can have daily operations,” Fadlun said when he opened the event.
Apart from the booths, there was a cultural and arts dance to entertain attendees.
Children were also kept entertained by a clown who made balloons for them.
A batik drawing demonstration was also held to promote the handicraft among Putrajaya folk.
Other notable demonstrations were crochet sewing and the correct way to use hair shampoo.
Fadlun also announced another PPj programme which was to ensure Putrajaya’s cleanliness was top tier – a gotong-royong that was held later that day.
However, Rokiah Abdul Wahab, who ran the Alkifah Heritage booth, hoped that more people could attend the community event.
“I hope more people will drop by to have lunch and some afternoon tea,” she said.
Also present at the event were PPj city services vice-president Nik Shukri Nik Soh and PPj community and sports service director Rosli Abdul Talib.
The event that started on June 11 will continue fortnightly on weekends from 7.30am to 3pm.
