New rooftop bar beckons with its signature cocktails and panoramic view of KL skyline

Nestled in the bustling hub of Kuala Lumpur city centre, perched 51 floors atop the newly redeveloped EQ Hotel is the latest watering hole – Blue.

EQ Hotel, previously known as Equatorial Hotel, has always been a landmark in the Malaysian nightlife scene.

Once home to the legendary Blue Moon club in the roaring 1980s, it is now reimagined and reborn as Blue, and looks set to uphold its iconic heritage.

The lustrous new rooftop bar welcomes patrons with its panoramic view of the city’s skyline.

To cater to the eclectic mix of its clientele, Blue is divided into three unique concepts – Bar Lounge, Sky Deck and VIP Deck – each offering its own vibe.

The VIP Deck, however, is not open for walk-ins. The space sits discreetly a floor above, suitable for private parties.

The Bar Lounge is further broken up into two sections and has more of a sophisticated speakeasy feel to it.

It offers a mellow place to unwind, although it can be a little more upbeat on weekends, depending on the type of live music played.

To keep things fresh, there is a different line-up of performers every weekend.

This week, contemporary jazz, R&B and soul vocalist Kirana Kay will take to the stage at 9pm today and tomorrow.

On a weekday though, the relaxed patio-like charm and breathtaking panoramic view offered by the Sky Deck wins the attention of patrons unwinding after a day at the grindstone.

As they are wowed by the mesmerising view of the setting sun, patrons can indulge in Blue’s artfully crafted signature cocktails such as the all-time favourite, Smoked Negroni.

Presented in a glass dome, it’s easy to tell that each component of this speciality has been carefully selected by star mixologist Osmund Bernard to work in unison.

Bernard, who is head mixologist and manager at Blue, is well-known in the industry and brings with him a lifetime of achievements and accolades.

He has incorporated his Sarawakian heritage into the signature drinks at Blue, such as The Hornbill.

Aside from signature cocktails, patrons will be pleased to find that the drinks list, like the bar snacks menu, has a little something for everyone.

Those with deep pockets or on a lavish date night can book a private seating pod at the Bar Lounge area and take in some live music while dining on 20-year-old Beluga caviar (RM988) with a bottle of Dom Perignon Brut Luminous Millesime (RM1,588).

If you’re looking to just chill after a crazy workday, there are cocktails, spirits, wine and beer on tap to pair with hearty comfort eats like Chicken Quesadilla (RM48), Smoked Salmon Crostini (RM48) and Baba Ganoush with Pita Bread (RM28).
