Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya is now hosting Disney’s “All Together for Summer” event.

PENANG residents and visitors can look forward to more shopping options and lifestyle experiences.

With Sunway Carnival Mall’s RM500mil expansion, shoppers can expect a modern layout and more large-format stores for international, regional and local brands.

The expansion doubles the mall’s retail space to one million sq ft, and has brought the number of shops to 350. This is expected to increase annual footfall to the mall in Seberang Jaya to 12 million by year end.

It is currently 95% leased, with the management targeting 100% by the time it is officially launched later this year.

There are also 3,200 parking bays now, as well as more entry points for better access and egress, including a dedicated ramp from a nearby highway.

Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said the expansion elevated the mall’s offerings to meet the shoppers’ lifestyle needs, while creating up to 2,000 new job opportunities.

“Since borders have reopened, we are looking to welcoming shoppers from locally and abroad. This transformation will inject excitement and give them more to discover.

“The retail industry has seen a revival in the past year and we want to contribute by innovating and providing new, experiential shopping options,” he added at the recent soft launch of the mall’s expansion.

The mall is home to many “first stores” for the Penang mainland with brands such as Jaya Grocer, JD Sports, Uniqlo, HaiDiLao, Kaison, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Swarovski, Pandora, Guess, Superdry, Bath and Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, and Charles and Keith.

Its 13-screen GSC Cinemas is the largest in the northern region.

Notably, Sunway Carnival is also one of the first malls in the region to be given a Green Mark Gold Plus rating, thanks to its use of energy-saving facilities, 100% LED lighting, a cashless parking system and incorporation of recycled items in parts of the mall’s surroundings.

The mall has 3,331sq ft of LED surfaces. This includes a five-sided LED cube in the main atrium that digitally displays promotional material.

There are also family-friendly facilities such as a toilet for children, baby section with private nursing rooms, children’s play area, and a calm space known as the Autsome Room for the autistic community.

Mall general manager Chai Wen Yew said the company would continue to refurbish older sections of the mall for a more seamless and refreshed look, and aimed to complete this by the fourth quarter of 2024.

From now until July 11, the mall’s main atrium hosts Disney’s “All Together for Summer” event featuring familiar characters from the Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel stables.

There will also be pop-up stores by local artisans, as well as a contemporary art exhibition by Can Can Public Art until July 24.
