Better traffic flow ahead in Bandar Puchong Jaya

The intersection of Jalan Pipit, Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya and Jalan Merbuk in Bandar Puchong Jaya will see smoother traffic flow soon.

Motorists heading towards the intersection of Jalan Pipit, Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya and Jalan Merbuk in Bandar Puchong Jaya, Selangor, can look forward to smoother traffic flow once Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) completes upgrades in the area.

MBSJ Engineering Department director Rosli Muhammad Yunus said the project would see the removal of traffic lights at Jalan Merbuk to reduce waiting time and allow for easier traffic flow.

At present, there are two sets of traffic lights – one at Jalan Merbuk and the other at Jalan Pipit.

Rosli said a two-month traffic survey revealed that interruptions to traffic flow here was increasing waiting time at peak hours and causing bumper-to-bumper congestion.

“Currently, to traverse the 500m stretch along Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya takes half an hour during peak periods.

“Vehicles can go no faster than 20kph but with the removal of one traffic light, we will see less waiting time,” he elaborated.

The upgrade will also see the construction of a staggered junction at Jalan Merbuk.

The earmarked site is currently being utilised as a parking lot in Jalan Helang 13.

One of the main functions of the junction is to channel traffic coming from Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) along Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya into Jalan Merbuk as well as direct outgoing traffic turning left into the main road towards Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP).

The staggered junction will stop a few metres away from the Jalan Pipit junction.

At the Jalan Pipit end, this junction will also allow outgoing traffic from Jalan Merbuk to turn right towards Kesas as well as allow incoming traffic from that direction.

This diversion is expected to ease traffic volume on Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya by channelling traffic into Jalan Merbuk, which connects to Jalan Puchong, another main thoroughfare.

Rosli said the project, estimated to cost RM400,000. Tenders would be called in the next two weeks.

Completion is expected within two to three months from the commencement of construction works.

Selangor local government, public transport and new village development committee chairman Ng Sze Han said in a press conference that the completion of this project would help ease congestion for Bukit Tandang residents.

“This is because Jalan Pipit is the only access for Bukit Tandang residents,” he said.

He added that attention to traffic issues could go a long way in ensuring that motorists have a smoother journey.

Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Johary Anuar, who was also present at the press conference, said the council had more plans for road upgrades in this area.

In addition to the one at the Jalan Pipit-Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya-Jalan Merbuk intersection, a new interchange linking Bukit Tandang to Kesas is being discussed, he revealed.

“This will be an alternative route and is estimated to cost RM30mil. It is still in the planning stage,” said Johary.
