ALL households in Johor are expected to receive bags of rice from the state government soon.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the rice aid programme was part of the RM144mil special government incentive known as Bantuan Kasih Bangsa Johor (BKBJ).

“We have prepared 172,500 units of 10kg bags of rice for the first phase of the programme.

“Distribution began on April 27 with the coordination of all district officers in the state.

“We aim to distribute as many bags as possible in the next few days and the rest will be given out in phases.

“Hopefully, this will alleviate the rakyat’s burden.

“We have enough supply to cater to all households in Johor, with some reserves in case there are those who may have been missed out,” he said after launching the Bangsa Johor rice aid programme in Kota Iskandar, Iskandar Puteri in Johor Baru.

He added that the people could get in touch with their respective assemblymen and state constituency special coordination committees (JKPD) about the rice aid programme.

Onn Hafiz said the state would officially appoint the committees of JKPD after he had met with the Barisan Nasional component parties.

He said the committees – which were to act as a bridge and facilitate execution of the state government’s programmes in Opposition constituencies – had to be approved by the state executive council before they could be officially appointed.

“For now, we have temporarily appointed the JKPD to assist us with the rice distribution programme at seats held by Opposition assemblymen,” he said.

Onn Hafiz said the rice aid programme was part of the 28 initiatives announced under BKBJ, which is set to benefit 3.6 million people in Johor.
