World Vision Malaysia (WVM) is celebrating its silver jubilee by paying tribute to its volunteers who have helped some 150,000 youngsters worldwide.

Its founding board chairman Philip Koh said: “Some 100,000 Malaysians have gone abroad to assist various vulnerable communities worldwide. We are grateful for their service.

“Malaysians have shown that each of us can make a difference in the world, hence the theme ‘Every You Count’ for our 25th anniversary,” he said at the launch in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

WVM has lined up various activities for Malaysians to join in the commemoration.

Among the activities is a digital campaign called “Every Pixel Counts” where participants can upload a photo with a minimum donation of RM10 to form part of a wider cloud canvas.

WVM has also collaborated with its ambassador Lee Sinje and WVM change-maker illustrator Nelson Lip to design limited-edition 25th anniversary collectibles such as T-shirts, tote bags and collapsible cups.

All funds raised through these two initiatives will go towards the WVM Assistance Fund to help local children and communities break the cycle of poverty.

On the anniversary T-shirt, Lee said it would feature a blue wavy pattern symbolising an ocean of love that caring volunteers form when they come together.

Each T-shirt costs RM50.

“I have been with WVM for the past 20 years, visiting impoverished children in various countries who have taught me valuable lessons.

“Those experiences have impacted my life,” Lee recounted.

WVM will also hold its annual 30-hour famine campaign, which will culminate in a celebration on Sept 16.

With the slogan “Future starts with You(th)!”, the global movement against hunger and poverty will focus on climate change.

WVM also announced that Hong Kong singer-songwriter and actor Pakho Chau would be this year’s 30-hour famine ambassador.

Speaking during an online interview at the event, Chau said that as a father of two, he was particularly concerned about the well-being of children.

“I encourage more people to join our cause,” he added.
