THIRTEEN stray cats captured by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) were adopted during its inaugural cat adoption drive in Batu Caves, Selangor.

MPS president Mohd Yazid Sairi himself took home two cats.

MPS Corporate Department director Mohamad Zin Masoad said the “Cat Adoption-We Love Cat” programme was organised to find homes for 50 stray cats.

“A fee of RM30 was charged for every adoption to cover the cost of the cat’s food during its stay at the MPS animal detention depot.

“The adopters were also given certificates of appreciation.”

Also present at the event was Malaysia Animal Association (MAA) president Arie Dwi Andika.

Mohamad Zin said MAA helped the council by giving advice on cat care.

He added that MPS would hold similar events in the future besides working with animal welfare groups to educate people about strays.

Those interested in adopting the cats can call MPS solid waste management and health department at 03-6126 6024/6080.
