TWO brothers in Taichung, Taiwan, received an unexpected windfall after adopting a stray cat when they later won NT$1mil (RM 124,478) in the lottery, reported China Press.

The older brother said he spotted a black stray cat shivering in the cold wind while visiting a friend near Chaoyang University of Technology.

Feeling sorry for the animal, he took it home and named it Qiqi because of its jet-black fur.

Around 2pm on Feb 5, the man and his younger brother brought Qiqi with them to buy six scratch lottery tickets worth a total of NT$2,000 (RM249).

As they scratched the third ticket, the brothers were stunned to see a winning ticket.

The two pledged to donate NT$30,000 (RM3,734) to an animal welfare group.

>An eight-year-old girl in China completed a 120km trek back to her hometown over five days to celebrate Chinese New Year, the daily also reported.

According to the girl’s mother, she insisted on travelling back to their hometown in Lianyuan city from Meixi Lake after failing in her first two attempts.

She attempted the same journey at ages six and seven, but failed because of heavy rain the first time and a sprained ankle the second time.

Determined to succeed this year, the little girl pleaded with her parents, who agreed to help make her wish come true.

Each day, one parent would walk alongside her while the other drove a car to provide logistical support.

Even when her parents urged her to quit after encountering bad weather, she refused.

“In your dreams,” the girl reportedly said.

The family finally arrived in Lianyuan city on the fifth day, having trekked a total of 120km.
