PRELIMINARY works have started on the Sungai Melayu Master Plan 2022-2032 which will turn the traditional village into an international eco-tourism product.
Kota Iskandar assemblyman Pandak Ahmad said Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) and Koperasi Kampung Sungai Melayu had started to identify places that need upgrading.
He said RM8mil had been allocated by the state government to develop the landscape and resorts with a focus on keeping Sungai Melayu free from pollution.
“The work will be done in four phases over the next 10 years,” he said when met after the Sunway City Iskandar Puteri bubur lambuk and food aid programme at Sunway Citrine Hub, Iskandar Puteri.
He added that the main attractions of Sungai Melayu were its rich marine life and lush mangrove areas.
“Tourists will be taken along the river to see how the villagers in Kampung Sungai Melayu catch fish, prawns and crabs.
“They can also visit the raft house where villagers keep large freshwater fish and mussels,” he added.
Pandak also revealed that he would be collaborating with Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB) and Sunway Property to develop a 3ha plot in Pendas Laut into a clean and proper business hub for local fishermen.
“All the fishermen in Tanjung Kupang will run their businesses there under one roof,” he said, adding that this was in his manifesto.
Pandak is also discussing with IIB and MBIP a plan to build a hub for young entrepreneurs.
“It will also act as a stoppingpoint for ehailing drivers and food delivery riders.
“MBIP will also help them to apply for a trader’s licence.
“They can run their businesses from home, provided their place is clean and they do not obstruct the roads,” he added.
