SOCIAL Security Organisation (Socso) members are eligible for international standard rehabilitation treatment in the country but many are unaware of the facility.
Treatment is available for free at the Tun Abdul Razak Rehabilitation Centre (TRRC) in Bandar Hijau, Melaka.
The centre, which is equipped with the latest high-tech equipment and supported by professional staff, provides a full rehabilitation treatment programme under one roof.
TRRC chief executive officer Datuk Dr Hafez Hussain said the centre offers three main services, namely medicine, physical rehabilitation and vocational skills.
“So far, more than 9,500 people have benefitted from our services.
“There were those who had previously lost hope but with our help, they have recovered and are back at work.”
He said TRRC also had a Neuro-Robotics Rehabilitation and Cybernics Centre equipped with the latest neuro robotic technology from Cyberdyne Inc, Japan, the Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL) robot suit.
The robot suit can restore, support and improve the level of movement function of the patient’s limbs when worn, based on cybernics technology that combines the interaction between humans and robots.
He said Malaysia was the fourth country in the world and the first in the Asean region to offer such a treatment.
TRRC is equipped with 24 robotic suits.
Sarawakian Vicky Ran Jeffry, 24, said he had been undergoing therapy for five months and his condition had improved since receiving treatment at the centre.
“I suffered a relatively chronic spinal cord injury following a car accident. I am happy this centre has many advanced tools that can help me recover and I also intend to return to work.”
Apart from that, TRRC also provides vocational rehabilitation programmes to ensure participants have the skills required to be independent after completing their training.
Many other programmes are also available in sewing, baking and culinary arts, electrical and electronics, graphic design, handicraft, hairdressing, tailoring, office management and computer skills.
After the participants have finished their treatment and training, Socso also helps them search for jobs through its Return To Work (RTW) programme.— Bernama
