FOR over a decade, communities surrounding Kuala Lumpur and Greater Klang Valley have faced traffic congestion on major highways, especially during rush hour.
This has contributed to many untoward incidents, given the rising number of vehicles on the road.

“For commuters struggling with traffic congestion on MRR2 (Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2), this will soon end with the completion of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated (SUKE) Highway, which is expected to be operational by the 2nd quarter of 2022,” said Prolintas group chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah.
“SUKE highway is being constructed as an effective traffic dispersal system to cope with current mobility problems and is expected to reduce congestion on MRR2 by 24%, Jalan Ampang by 36% and Jalan Loke Yew by 12% during peak hours.
“At the same time, SUKE is set to provide commuters with an alternative route, reducing travelling time by an estimated 25 minutes,” he added.
The 24.4km highway is built by Projek Lintasan Sungai Besi Ulu Klang Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned company of Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas), with an estimated cost of RM5.2b.
SUKE will connect with the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, Sungai Besi Expressway, Cheras-Kajang Expressway, MRR2, Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (Akleh) and Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE).
The two-way SUKE Highway starts from the Sri Petaling junction and goes up to Ulu Kelang.
The project, which started in 2016, has four construction packages – CA1, CA2, CA3 and CA4.
CA1 is the beginning of SUKE, which connects Kesas or Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex via the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway and Besraya towards Ulu Kelang.
It will improve accessibility and link northbound traffic through Kuala Lumpur city centre without the need to face congestion on the MRR2.
CA2 is the alignment with a multi-storey structure along the MRR2.
Meanwhile, CA3 on Jalan Len Seng (Zone 2) offers new scenery with attractive sidewalks and street lights.
This two-storey structure has an iconic bridge with a panoramic view of the SUKE Highway.
Meanwhile, CA4 is set to be the tallest bridge in the Klang Valley, standing at 57m above ground level, and crosses the MRT Line 1 and Grand Saga Highway.
SUKE’s world-class design was developed using local engineering expertise and promises commuters a comfortable and safe journey to their destinations.
The highway’s unique feature is that almost 90% of its structure is elevated and built on existing road routes with three-lane carriageways in each direction.
SUKE also connects several interesting tourist attractions in the Klang Valley and Kuala Lumpur, such as Zoo Negara, Bukit Jalil Stadium, Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower.
To complement SUKE’s features as a user-friendly highway, a Rest and Service Area (RSA) is provided at the Tasik Tambahan junction near Ampang Jaya – a one-stop centre with shopping facilities and a multipurpose hall.
The development of SUKE is expected have an overall positive impact on the surrounding communities, thereby generating income, creating employment opportunities, increasing property value and boosting the local economy.
