The 197ha Putrajaya Wetlands Park has over 200 species of birds now, thanks to comprehensive rehabilitation efforts

One of the new bird species spotted in the city is the Brush Cuckoo.

A HEALTHY ecosystem provides a rich base for new species to flourish. So, when three new bird species — the eastern crowned warbler, brush cuckoo and brown wood-owl — were spotted during an inventory at Putrajaya Wetlands Park last year, it was cause for celebration.

Though perhaps some believe that the absence of usual human activities during the movement control order (MCO) may have played a part in the increase of bird species, that is not necessarily the case, says Putrajaya Corporation (PjC) Environment, Lake and Wetland chief deputy director Normaliza Noordin.
