Mask-up, Speaker reminds Selangor reps

MOHD Sany Hamzan (PH-Taman Templer) who took off his face mask during a debate with Datuk Rizam Ismail (BN- Sungai Air Tawar) raised titters during the 14th Selangor Legislative Assembly when he retorted that he was so “vexed”, he couldn’t breathe.

Mohd Sany was responding to Rizam’s claims that state agencies have failed to work in unison to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. Though Mohd Sany had obeyed Speaker Ng Swee Lim’s orders to mask-up the first time, he again took it off as the debate continued.

Rizam claimed that the state government was not working together with health authorities, namely when it comes to quarantine or isolation centres for those found positive with Covid-19.

Rizam also claimed that it was “undemocratic” to not obtain the consent of residents especially when these centres are close to housing areas.

Mohd Sany replied that the word “undemocratic” should not be used as the Selangor government was chosen by the people.

Mohd Sany was not the only member to be reminded that masking-up was compulsory.

Elizabeth Wong (PH- Bukit Lanjan) also did the same but did so with permission as she delivered her address during the first sitting.

However, after her turn, members were reminded that under no circumstances were they to take off their masks during the entire assembly session.
