MBSA to look into employers flouting SOP

SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) will take seriously complaints on business premises that continue to operate despite having Covid-19 cases among its employees.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor said some employers did not inform the authorities about their infected workers.

One of the cases involved a supermarket where several employees tested positive for Covid-19, which Zamani said was revealed after investigation by the Klang District Health Office.

“There are a few other complaints which I have also requested the district Health Office to confirm. If true, the officers will issue a closure notice to the premises,” he said during the council’s full board meeting.

The standard operating procedure when employees test positive for Covid-19 is for the premises to be closed for thorough sanitising and testing of workers.

Zamani was responding to councillor Papparaidu Veraman, who revealed the matter.

“It is only when we hear of complaints from the public that we know of such incidents,” said Papparaidu, adding that this had also happened at a business premises in Taman Alam Megah.

Meanwhile, Residents Representative Council (MPP) Zone 2 councillor Datuk Emran Kadir’s suggestion in an earlier meeting for MBSA to utilise its reserves to assist those unable to pay their bills, was rejected.

A report on this by the Corporate and Community Development Unit stated that after discussions between the mayor and the chief whips, the suggestion could not be considered due to the council’s lacklustre revenue performance during the pandemic.

The council’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the burden of those affected by the pandemic, however, received a shot in the arm with contributions from two companies.
