Radio station joins crisis relief squad in providing aid to three families in Bukit Jalil

Star Media Group’s Chinese radio station 988 FM teamed up with Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM), to help the needy at People’s Housing Project (PPR) Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

The group visited three families who had placed a white flag in front of their units.

The White Flag movement, which encourages those who need aid to hang a white cloth outside their homes, has shown that Malaysians are always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to the deserving.

988 FM general manager Woo Bee Ay said that as a media company, the radio station wanted to urge those who needed help to ask for it.

“We encourage the public to help their neighbours without prejudice.

“Sometimes, those who need help may not know where to turn to, but we can step up and contribute to lessen their burden,” she said.

The team distributed daily necessities such as rice, canned sardines, beans, sugar, salt, face masks, hand sanitiser, biscuits and bread to the families they visited.

988 FM deejay Joycelyn Chu also chatted with some of the family members to know more about their situation and how the team could help them.

“The families that we helped are either among the hardcore poor or had lost their capability to work because of injuries sustained from accidents,” she said.

“988 FM would like those who really need aid during this Covid-19 pandemic as well as those willing to contribute to get in touch with us through our official Facebook account at www.facebook.com/988.my.

“We will compile a list and send it to CRSM.”

Meanwhile, Federal Territories CRSM chief Steward Loke said it had also distributed aid to several families living in PPR flats in Bukit Jalil and Wangsa Maju.

“We extended help to families in PPR Bukit Jalil during Chinese New Year this year and gave single parents, families with disabled persons, senior citizens and the hardcore poor some food and financial assistance.

“We are aware that a lot of families in these flats need help.

“When a resident told me about these three families putting up a white flag, we came to help,” he said.

Loke said that currently, GoCare, a crowdfunding initiative by CRSM, was also raising funds for the underprivileged.

“Everyone can participate and generate funds through donations or sales of various foods or other items.

“We also hope to serve as a platform that links charity organisations together to help those in need,” he said.
