Help for family of 13 affected by pandemic

AFTER experiencing several job losses because of the pandemic, a family of 13 is now depending on a burger business for their day-to-day survival.

Mother of 11, Nor Aziah Anuar, 39, said her husband worked as an electrician before the pandemic hit, but lost his job during the movement control order in March 2020.

He still did odd jobs, including wiring upon request, but such opportunities were rare now, she said.

“My two eldest children, who are 20 and 22, worked as a salesperson and factory operator, respectively, but they too lost their jobs.

“They later found work at a food stall nearby but were laid off again.

“However, I am grateful to still have my burger business, which has been our main source of income during such a tough period,” she said.

While the pandemic has affected her business, it is just enough for the couple to put food on the table for their children, with the youngest only four months old.

Nor Aziah said this when met after receiving aid such as diapers, cooking oil, sugar and rice from Econsave Cash and Carry Sdn Bhd at her house in Kampung Permatang, Kempas Baru.

“I am very thankful for the aid.

“These items will last us for the next few weeks,” she said.

Econsave general manager Mas Imran Adam said the aid was worth about RM1,000.

“We hope that this will ease their burden during this period.

“The aid also includes some of the items she would need for her burger business.

“We have also offered to give jobs to her husband and two children in our stores,” he said, adding that he hoped this would help ensure the family have a more stable income.
