THE state’s first gym specially built for the training of athletes, The Cage High Performance Centre (HPC), will be ready soon.

Johor Sports Council Athlete, Sport Science and Sukma unit chief Mohammad Syafiq Hassan said the facility was 90% complete and should be ready by April this year.

He added that Johor would be the first state to have its own gym for athletes after the Jungle Gym under the National Sports Institute.

“The concept is similar to Jungle Gym where athletes from Johor train with the equipment available.

“The Cage HPC is located at Nusa Duta in Bukit Indah.

“Aside from the gym, it is also equipped with a dorm and tennis court, ” he said when contacted.

Syafiq said The Cage HPC would offer athletes help in sports nutrition, psychology, physiology, physiotherapy and conditioning.

“Before this, each element was scattered but now all these services will be provided under one roof.

“Some of the treatments include an ice bath, aside from physiotherapy offered by Hospital Sultanah Aminah three times a week.

“We are currently moving all of the equipment into the facility which can cater to 100 athletes at a time, ” he said.

Syafiq added that members of sports associations could also use The Cage HPC.
